Mercy on the Jericho Road

The wounded traveler lies on the rocky road, stripped and bleeding after the violence described in Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan. A robed figure bends close beside him, turning the moment from abandonment toward mercy. The injured man’s bandaged head, bloodied chest, and exhausted face place the viewer at the very point where compassion becomes action.

In Luke 10:25-37, Jesus answers the question, “Who is my neighbor?” by telling of a man beaten by robbers on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho. Religious passersby avoid him, but a Samaritan stops, binds his wounds, and provides ongoing care. The scene emphasizes that true obedience to God is revealed in costly love, practical mercy, and care for the suffering stranger. It is well suited for teaching on compassion, outreach, mercy ministry, neighbor love, and the parables of Jesus.
