The Temple Veil Torn

The richly woven temple veil hangs between carved sanctuary pillars, split open from top to bottom with a dark tear running through its center. The torn curtain points to the moment at the death of Jesus Christ when the barrier before the Most Holy Place was opened by God Himself. In the Gospel accounts, this sign accompanies the crucifixion and declares that access to the presence of God is no longer guarded by the old separation of the temple curtain. The rending of the veil is a visual confession of atonement, fulfilled sacrifice, and the new way opened through Christ.
